Heather Langstaff BA (Hons), MSc (Econ), MCLIP, AMInstLM
My name's Heather and welcome to my website! I initially created this to record my journey through the CILIP Chartership process; I was successful and so I'm now Chartered. I've decided to continue with the site to keep up to date with my professional development and all things library and information related. The title 'The Hybrid Librarian' comes from my library Master's dissertation, where I researched 'librarians as teachers' and concluded that we are hybrid professionals due to the experience, skills and qualifications that are required. I'm also interested in rare books and special collections and how these areas are related to the archives profession. My current areas of interest and research are in using technology enhanced learning and creating e-learning resources.
I am a Mentor for various CILIP Professional Registration qualifications and I welcome enquiries from prospective mentees. I am quite happy to mentor candidates at a distance via email/telephone/Skype etc. (this is how I completed my CILIP Chartership). Please get in touch using the 'Contact' page at the top if you're interested.
I have worked in a number of different sectors, including school libraries, public libraries and academic libraries. I have also worked in a health library for the NHS and in a rare books library. I completed my Graduate Library Traineeship at the Bodleian Social Science Library, University of Oxford. I'm currently a Learning Centre Tutor at a specialist marine school, which is part of an FE/HE College in the South West of England.
